The Refuge is a 981+/--acre private recreational estate in the high-end sporting district of the Wateree River Basin just north of Highway 378, in Sumter County. Last season the impoundment held 6,000-8,000 birds at any given time. A unique attribute of The Refuge lies in the swamp where a green-tree reservoir can be managed in a variety of ways to allow for intense waterfowl management within old growth hardwood timber. The habitat is nothing less than first class, and as impressive as anywhere else in the state, making it a truly premier wild waterfowl destination. Other improvements enjoyed on this property are the saline pool, 3,200 sq ft guest house, 1,500 sq ft enclosed shed (plus 2,800 sq ft covered area) and a 3,800 sq ft pole barn. The Refuge is located 15 miles from the historic town of Camden and 33 miles to Downtown Columbia.
